SAYARE RTVN JIGGER CAMPAIN 2010

More than twenty homesteads in Eldoret South Constituency in Wareng District are jigger infested. We visited some of the homes in the company of the municipal and MTRH health officials.
Anti-jigger campaigners have blamed poverty for the slow progress in the fight against the parasite in Langas. Health officers from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, who had accompanied SAYARE team, said more re-sources were needed to boost the economic wellbeing of those afflicted.

The infestation of jiggers in the entire Langas estate has paralyzed the movement of residents. The victim’s feet and fingers have been disfigured. Poverty and lack of proper hygiene is evidence in the affected homes.

Speaking at Kambi Nguruwe Estate in Langas, where more than 30 residents turned up for treatments at the weekend, Mr. Kirwa who is the public health officer working with the MTRH echoed SAYARE’s move to support the vulnerable in the community terming it as well thought move. He advised the residents to improve their cleanliness in order to eradicate other diseases.

The company’s human resource manager, Mrs Evelyn Kilimo who is also the C.E.O’s personal assistant promised to reach out to the affected families being one of the responsibilities of SAYARE RTVN MINISTRY and ensure that jiggers were eradicated from the entire Langas slums.
